About SEP NDP
Sustainable Enterprise Project (SEP) is jointly financed by Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) and the World Bank. The objective of SEP is to increase the adaptation of environmentally sustainable practices by targeted microenterprises. SEP has selected 30 lead districts as the project working area to demonstrate the project impact on different sub-sectors. The project prioritizes a selected number of polluting microenterprises business clusters and supports the expansion of innovative economic activities conducive to a more sustainable environment.
Promotion of Environmentally Sustainable Practices in Dairy Business Cluster in Sirajganj District under “Sustainable Enterprise Project-SEP” Project
National Development Programme (NDP) is implementing “Promoting ecological practices for safe dairy and dairy products in the core lead dairy business cluster in the Jamuna riverine northern area of Bangladesh (SEP-Dairy Farm)” sub project under SEP in Shahzadpur and Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj district. The sub-project activities will be implemented in the business clusters of the “Dairy” subsector to improve the overall business and environment of the microenterprises.
Objectives
The goal of the sub-project is to improve environmental and economic condition of the dairy entrepreneurs through adoption of environmentally sustainable practices and the objectives are to:
(a) Reduces water and air pollution caused by the dairy cluster through solid waste management and adoption of environment friendly technologies, process and practices.
(b) Contribute to improve environment through promoting use of bio-pesticide, bio-fertilizer and bio-gas made from dung, urine, etc.
(c) Increase income of the dairy micro-entrepreneurs through providing supports to produce quality products to reach premium markets.
Major Activities
(a) Initiatives to increase eco labeling and access to premium market.
(b) Revenue generating common service facilities.
(c) Non-revenue generalizing common service facilities.
(d) Capacity development of the MEs.
(e) Capacity development of the NDP staffs.
(f) Providing financial support to the MEs for their long term financial sustainability.
(g) Awareness raising, business certification and product certification.
Implementation process
The sub-project consists of two (02) components
(a) Enhancing services and enabling system.
(b) Strengthen access to finance for commercially viable environment friendly & resilient microenterprise.
The project activities implement by the project staffs and concerned microfinance staffs jointly. The beneficiaries of the project are NDP’s microfinance borrowers who have enterprise with dairy within the project cluster area.
